BIRTHDAY FUND/JCC SCHOLARSHIPS

The Birthday Fund provides funding to our 6 Scholarships at JCC. If you are having a birthday, or have had one recently, do not forget to donate to the Birthday Fund. Any student awarded one of these scholarships that returns to Jefferson for a second year will automatically receive the scholarship for a second year!  Do you know that as a Rotarian, if you have children or grandchildren attending JCC, they will be considered for one of the scholarships if they meet the criteria?

Thank you to Bob Schweitzer for his donation to the Birthday/JCC Scholarship Fund.

Important News to Note!

Rose Day Report

Rose day is May 30th! We have 4 weeks to sell 2,500 dozen roses. Our original goal was to raise $15,000 which helps to fund projects such as the following...

Tree Planting
Dodge Pond
Polio Plus
Dairy Princess of Jefferson County
Rotary International
Scholarships
Boy and Girl Scouts
Jefferson Technical Center
Group Study Exchange

We need each member to sell a minimum of 14 dozen -- we can meet this goal!!!

As of 4/23, we have sold 177 dozen.

President Terry is really leaning on Barb and Laurie this year, so we need to help them! It's a huge help to the committee when you sell your roses early and turn the forms in - it helps them to determine the number of roses to order, honor color requests, and sort cards and organize routes.

Help is also needed to deliver roses on Friday, May 30th. Here is your opportunity to earn another chance to win all of those fabulous prizes on June 4th and have yummy Dunkin' Donuts and drink coffee with fellow Rotarians before hitting the road and making a lot of people really happy by delivering beautiful roses! It's really a fun time and the committee is working hard to keep the routes short this year. If you have ANY questions, call Barb Park at AAA or Laurie Nortz at JCC or Marsha.

Sell --- Sell --- Sell

TIME FOR MILK CARTONS/CANS

On Wednesday, May 21st, the Rotary Foundation Committee will be collecting your milk carton/cans of change you have been saving for the Annual Fund of the Rotary International Foundation. Bring them (filled with lots of $$$ of course!) to lunch with you so that we can add it to your Rotary Foundation Sustaining Membership account. If you are not a Sustaining Member and your carton/can has at least $50, the club will add to it to reach the $100 to start you as a RI Foundation Sustaining Member. Upon contributing a total of $1,000 over a ten year (or sooner) period, you will receive Paul Harris recognition. The Rotary Foundation's goal is to receive contributions to the Annual Fund of $100 annually per Rotarian by 2005. The Annual Fund supports Rotary's Humanitarian projects promoting Peace and Understanding throughout the world.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! IMPORTANT NOTICE!

The Board of Directors has decided that the Water Wheel will only be published every other week, beginning now! For example, the Water Wheel will go to print on April 10th for the week of April 16th, there will be no Water Wheel going to print on April 17th for the week of April 23rd, and one will go to print on April 24th for the week of April 30th and so on. If you have something you would like posted on the off weeks, it can be done by posting it here on the Rotary Web Page. You can have that done by calling or e-mailing Marsha at the Rotary Office or you can e-mail Lin Fields who keeps the web page updated. If you wish to have a notice in the Water Wheel printed, remember to give us plenty of notice!

Remember your Pledge for Polio Eradication: We've reached a grand total of $36,146.00 from the two clubs. Thank you!! Pledge forms must be returned to the Rotary Office by June 30, 2003. All pledges must be paid by June 30, 2005.

WE ARE HAVING A PICNIC!

May 3 has a lot going on that day! Not only are we cleaning up the roads and planting trees, but Carolyn Fitzpatrick and her committee would like to announce a fun Fellowship Event. After you are tired from cleaning and planting, bring your family to Thompson Park for a picnic. If you want a chance to show off your culinary expertise in the way of salads and desserts, you can bring a dish to pass but it's not necessary.
Beer and soda will be provided.

ROTARY FOUNDATION WALK - MAY 10TH

President Terry will be walking in this year's walk and invites you to join him. The walk will take place in the beautiful historic Town of Perth on the River Tay. The day will begin with registration at Camp Merrywood and you will have a light continental breakfast. The participants will be bussed to Perth which is a 10-15 minute drive. AT that time we will divide everyone into 3 groups depending on how fast you want to walk. Our tour guides will be able to give a brief description of historical places of interest along the way. The walk will finish at the famous Inga-va House which is the location of the last fatal duel in Canada. Our buses will pick up the participants at this time and take them back to Camp Merrywood. There will be time for everyone wishing to tour the camp prior to the buses leaving or after the walk. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has not seen the Camp to see where your fun raising money has gone. More information to follow. The cost is $32 US per participant. This covers the registration, breakfast, lunch, gift bag and bus transportation. Registration and check is payable to the Rotary Club of Perth, and must be received by May 5. If you have questions, contact Geoffrey Wickware at 613-267-2064 of email WICKWARE@RIPNET.COM Marsha has registration forms at the office along with pledge forms.
