BIRTHDAY FUND/JCC SCHOLARSHIPS

The Birthday Fund provides funding to our Scholarships at JCC. If you are having a birthday, or have had one recently, do not forget to donate to the Birthday Fund. With your donations, we were able to award six scholarships to Jefferson Community College this year. Do you know that as a Rotarian, if you have children or grandchildren attending JCC, they will be considered for one of the scholarships if they meet the criteria?

The Office now has applications for our scholarships to JCC. The scholarship criteria calls for preference for the award to be given to someone related to a Rotarian. If any of our members has a family member attending JCC in the fall and would like an application, please contact Marshal. There are six scholarships. Applications must be filled out and returned to the Financial Aid office at JCC  by March 31, 2003!

There is a correction in the scholarship application! The application reads that the candidate must be a resident of Watertown - it should read that the candidate must be a resident of Jefferson County.

Thanks to Pete Salmon for his recent donation.

OTHER NEWS YOU CAN USE

ROD AND RIFLE EXPO!!!

A report is forthcoming!

From Marsha O'Anderson,

The Irish War...

Saddam Hussein was in his office wondering whom to invade next when his telephone rang. "Hallo, Mr. Hussein!", a heavily accented voice said. "This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Sligo, Ireland. I am ringing you to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!"

"Well, Paddy, "Saddam replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?" "Right now, " Paddy said after a moment's calculation, "there is me self, me cousin Sean, me next door neighbor Seamus, and the entire dart team from the pub. That makes 8!'"

Saddam paused, "I must tell you Paddy, that I have one million men in my army waiting to move on my command!"  "Begorrah!", said Paddy. "I'll have to ring you right back!"

Sure enough, the next day, Paddy called again. "Mr. Hussein, the war is still on! We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment." "And what equipment would that be?" Saddam asked.

"Well, we have two combines, a bull dozer, and Murphy's farm tractor". Saddam sighed.. "I must tell you Paddy that I have 16,000 tanks and 14,000 armored personnel carriers. Also I've increased my army to 1 1/2 million since we last spoke!"

"Saints preserve us!!!!" said Paddy. "I'll have to get back to you!"

Sure enough, Paddy rang back the next day. "Mr. Hussein, the war is still on! We have managed to get ourselves airborne!! We've modified Harrigan's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit and four boys from Shamrock's Pub have joined us as well". Saddam was silent for a moment and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you Paddy, that I have 1,000 bombers and 2,000 fighter planes. My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I've increased my army to 2 million!" "Jesus, Mary and Joseph! I'll have to ring you back," Paddy said.

Sure enough, Paddy called again the next day. "Top o' the morning to ya, Mr. Hussein! I'm sorry to tell you that we have had to call off the war!" "I'm sorry to hear that Paddy. Why the sudden change of heart?" Saddam asked.

"Well," said Paddy, "we've all had a long chat over a bunch of pints and decided there is no friggin' way we can feed two million prisoners!"
