Attendance Policy

Purpose:  The purpose of this policy is to clarify attendance expectations of club members.  Rotary is committed to Service Above Self, and our effective action in our four avenues of service depends upon the regular participation of our members.

Applies to:  All members of Watertown Sunrise Rotary, except honorary members.

Effective Date:  This policy was approved by the Board at its November 25, 2003 meeting.

General Policy:  In accordance with Rotary International’s guidelines, membership in Rotary carries with it certain responsibilities:

·         Members are expected to attend weekly programs of the club. Opportunities to make up attendance include attending the regular meeting of another Rotary club, attending various other Rotary meetings, or attending a club service project authorized by the club board of directors.

·         Members are expected to participate in local or international activities or projects of the Rotary club.

Club Policy:  Rotary International’s standard is 60% attendance.  Therefore, members of Watertown Sunrise are expected to maintain 60% attendance each year.  The following actions will be taken to ensure that the club achieves this standard:

  1. Member attendance reporting will be provided to individual members by the secretary at least every quarter.

  1. The board will review club attendance semi-annually.  If a member has not sustained 60% attendance, the membership chair will contact the member by phone to ensure that the member is aware of his or her attendance and determine whether the club can assist the member in raising his/her attendance.

  1. If a member does not achieve 60% attendance over the course of a year, the board will review and take appropriate action on the member’s membership status, up to and including termination, and notify the member in writing of the action taken.

Implementation:  To facilitate implementation of this policy, the club will:

  1. provide an education session for members concerning their responsibilities and the options available to them to help them maintain 60% attendance, and

  1. provide attendance incentives and contests.
