El Salvador Project
To provide safe drinking water to Santo Tomas,
El Salvador which is a community of 110 families (over 650
people). Water is collected from roof surfaces and stored without
purification for drinking.
Solar panels and jordinnears are already being used in other
communities with long term success.
It is proposed to install a similar
solar purification
system (2
units) for Santa Thomas. Grants must be done in cooperation with a Rotary club at the site
of the project. In the case of this grant the Rotary club of Sonsonate,
El Salvador is the local sponsor. Each year a project fair is held in
Central America (Uniendo America Project Fair) where local clubs present
applications for their special needs. This points out the fact that
these are not just "pie in the sky" ideas. Once the project is proposed,
an application is submitted to Rotary International
and
if approved, the project may proceed. The application gives
details
about the project and is submitted
from the participating clubs.
