The camp is open to all disabled youngsters between the ages of 8-20, who live in Jefferson County. There is no charge to the camper. Rotary pays $240/camper. Youngsters attend Dodge Pond in Fine, NY July 28 - August 2nd. The camp is owned and operated by the St. Lawrence County ARC. We have a written lease with ARC for the camp's use. It is completely handicapped accessible with a 17 acre pond. The kids get to swim, fish, boat, and do arts & crafts. Its a week the kids will never forget. Disabilities include muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, visual imparities, speech impediments, autism, etc. The sources of funding for camp are: the events listed below, the United Way and contributions from six Rotary clubs in the county. St. Lawrence runs their camp the week after our camp.
In 2003, Sunrise Rotary spent $2000 to build some of these lean-tos you see above. One is dedicated to Dick Hayes, a Sunrise Rotarian who past away recently.
